Hey folks - great work so far. You’ve come to an interesting milestone on the journey. This is because the first two choices, Humility and Focus, make up your “Way of Seeing.” This is about your mind, commonly referred to as your mindset. It’s how you perceive the world, including your company, your clients, your people, and yourself.
When you choose humility over arrogance and egoism, you manage your ego so that you can see clearly. Without filter, without story, without delusion.
When you choose Focus over distraction and complexity, you simplify and direct your attention on what you want.
With a constructive mindset, your actions produce better results than with a destructive or clouded mind. Very simply, when you’re clear on what you want, you are more likely to achieve it.
The way to become the Sage on the Mountain is to strengthen your mind so that you achieve crystal clear clarity.
When you choose Humility and Focus, you will know without question who you are becoming and where you are going. And this will create context in your life. Context for your decisions, priorities, and actions. With clear direction, you will have a clear plan that allows you to show up “on purpose,” every minute, every day.
In EOS®, this is the “Vision” in Vision, Traction, and Healthy. Vision is about getting everyone at your company 100% on the same page with where you’re going and how you plan to get there. Once everyone is clear on your vision, they are looking in the same direction and seeing the same thing.
But having a clear vision isn’t enough. Your vision, as great as it may be, and even when it is shared, is only an idea in your mind. Vision and all planning exercises are just that - they are fantasies and hallucinations, without action.
So you and I cannot stop here. We must keep ascending this mountain to higher ground. We must elevate from the mind to the body, where we can take action. I call it an elevation because it is an evolution, a higher state. As Deepak Chopra says, “The body is wiser than the mind.”
Think about it. Your body doesn’t need the conscious mind to tell your heart to beat or your lungs to breathe. The body just does those things.
And so, as we move into the next two choices, we are elevating out of our minds and into our bodies, where we will go on to execute on our vision. To actually build new habits. To become stronger and more capable. To advance boldly forward.
So I will see you back here next week, where we will take up Choice #3, which is Trust.
Until then, venture on,
Big love,
Philip
