Folks, you have reached a new vantage point on your journey. A higher ground with greater perspective. A place to pause, reflect, and look around.
That’s because the last two choices, Trust and Discipline, make up Your Way of Doing.
Choosing Trust allows you to free yourself from unnecessary worry, take risks, make commitments, and harness your courage to generate forward momentum.
Choosing Discipline allows you to free yourself from addictive behaviors that are holding you back, so that you can form new habits and break free into new realms of possibility.
Together, they make up the Way of Doing. Acting in accordance with what you really want. Behaving in alignment with your integrity. Fulfilling your destiny.
Whereas the Way of Seeing was about the mind. The Way of Doing is about the body. When I talk about the body, think of the heart and legs.
A wise person once said, “The body is wiser than the mind”. And so when we move from the mind down into the body, we are actually elevating to a place of higher consciousness. More energy, more wisdom, more freedom. Ultimately, more abundance.
In EOS®, the Way of Seeing is called Vision. The Way of the Body is called Traction®.
Traction is about “Execution” - With real discipline and real accountability. Everyone is rowing in the same direction towards the vision you set out in the first two choices.
Acting with Trust allows you to take your vision and make it real. To generate actual momentum and begin moving forward. To start down a new path to generate a different set of outcomes than you were previously.
This is not a mindset. It’s a physical act. You trust with your heart, not your head. And when you summon discipline and choose the actions that align with what you really want and not what is most satisfying, you turn your path up the mountain.
The Serenity Prayer is built into the Way of Doing. As a reminder, the Serenity Prayer says:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.”
With trust, we accept the first part - that there are “things we can not change”. And more than that, we accept that they are good. It’s the way life is. No arguments, no complaining. Serenity.
The second part - “The courage to change the things we can” is about discipline. And ultimately, discipline involves summoning our willpower. Temptations of the flesh and the pull of instant gratification are adversities. With discipline, we take the first steps in becoming who we truly were meant to be.
The third part is “The wisdom to know the difference” and is coming in the remaining posts. Wisdom is something we begin to access higher up on the mountain, where the air is cleaner and our vantage point clearer.
As powerful and wise as our body is, it can only take us so far.
There is a place of higher elevation and more energy. A place of more clarity, confidence, and wisdom. A place of new capability, impact, and influence. A place of absolute freedom.
And that is a place deeper in our bodies, at the molecular level — down in the diaphragm, where breath oxygenates our blood. A place of consciousness beyond all fear. All conflict. The pilot light for the soul of leadership.
It is the Way of Being.
Not the mind.
Not the body.
But the Soul.
